 About Consumption calculators Minimize

Calculating the aproxomation costs of electricity consumption.

The amount of energy you use is measured in kilowatt hours (kWh). One kWh (also termed a unit of electricity) is in simple termts, the equivalent of 1000 watts used for a period of one hour.

To give you an approximate electricity consumption for your household appliances we have based each appliance's usage on a standard wattage rate.

If you wish to calculate an appliance's exact electricity consumption simply divide its wattage by one thousand and multiply by the number of hours it is used and then multiply by the cost of a unit of electricity as per the tarrifs supplied by telkom.

For example the cost of running a 600Watt stove top  for 1.5 hours is:

600watt/1000 x 1.5hours x 30c = R0.27
